g.AUDIObox

Trigger and auditory stimulation unit

g.AUDIObox is an audio trigger interface that takes 4 digital audio channels over USB. Channels 1 and 2 drive stereo headphones; channels 3 and 4 carry trigger information and go through the digital outputs to the digital inputs of a g.tec biosignal amplifier. The left and right ear can be stimulated independently, and the triggers are also shown on two blue LEDs.

  • 4 digital audio channels
  • Stereo stimulation
  • USB · 5 V DC
  • 2 kV isolation

Clinical application

Auditory BCI for locked-in patients

Auditory brain–computer interfaces are among the effective ways to communicate with severely paralysed people, such as those with locked-in syndrome (LIS) or complete locked-in syndrome (CLIS). g.AUDIObox can be used with these patients to assess cognitive function or to establish basic communication.

High and low tone testing

High- and low-frequency tones test the auditory awareness of unresponsive patients: the patient is asked to attend to particular sounds, and their ability to tell the tones apart or follow commands is assessed. Commands reach the left, right or both ears through headphones, with precisely timed triggers.

Customisable triggering

EEG synchronisation with your own audio file

When EEG triggering must follow particular pitches or volume levels in an audio file, user-specific audio files carrying trigger information can be loaded into the system: high-precision timing between auditory stimulation and the EEG recording.
